An Exclusive Interview with Adil Hamid, Founder of Auxilio
Katherine Thomas, Senior Advisor at Auxilio and member of the company's Advisory Board, recently seized the opportunity to sit down with Adil Hamid, Auxilio's Founder, to discuss the company’s remarkable achievements. In the wake of Auxilio's triumph as the recipient of the Start-Up Service Provider of the Year 2024 award at the prestigious British Conveyancing Awards, Katherine embarked on a candid conversation with Adil to unveil the driving force behind Auxilio's innovative approach to legal outsourcing.
Katherine: Hot on the heels of accepting the award for Start-Up Service Provider of the Year at the British Conveyancing Awards 2024, I caught up with Adil Hamid to take a peek under the bonnet of Auxilio and get to know the management team and philosophy behind this impressive award-winning business.
“Adil, congratulations on Auxilio’s award for start-up provider of the year. Can you tell us a little about Auxilio?”
“Absolutely. Auxilio does time-consuming and repetitive legal work for conveyancing and law firms. We do it quickly, accurately and in a way that fits in with the way they work. Our aim is to take the pressure off and leave conveyancers and lawyers to do what they do best – deliver great solutions for their clients.”
“You’re not the first outsourcing business in this market but you are the only winner of this award! What makes you different?”
“Sure, the concept of outsourcing is not new, but the way that we do it is.
First of all, we combine the benefits of an off-shore team with UK-based account management and quality control. We have a team of Pakistan-based lawyers who have UK law degrees and so understand the standards required by UK businesses. Delivery is managed by our account managers based in the UK, We also have UK based subject matter experts with at least 10 years’ experience across each service line who are responsible for quality control. All of this means that clients get the cost savings inherent in off-shoring work, with account management services based in a UK time zone and UK standard quality.
Second, we’re unashamedly focused on the small and medium sized market. We exist to give to SMEs, what larger organisations have had for quite some time: access to quality, cost effective outsourcing options.”
“Starting a business is not for the faint hearted. What motivated you to set up Auxilio?”
“I’m fortunate to have grown up in Pakistan and been educated in the UK, maintaining strong networks in both places. Over the course of my career, I have observed two things: the exceptional legal talent in Pakistan and the intense need in the UK for staff to carry out high quality legal work. Connecting the two seemed to me to be an obvious thing: law firms would get the help they need, while UK law graduates based in Pakistan would get to work for UK firms.”
“What does it take to launch a successful start-up like Auxilio? Any tips for budding entrepreneurs out there?”
“It’s a challenge, for sure, but if you’re passionate about what you’re doing and believe in it, the challenge is worthwhile. However, it’s not enough just to be passionate: there needs to be a market for your services. So, my main tip for budding entrepreneurs is to be uncompromising in your market testing – that means doing more than asking your potential clients whether they would use your service – because most of them will say yes - the critical thing is to test whether they will pay for your service and whether they will choose it over other options. My second tip is, if you’ve established that a market exists, as you hone your offering, tie everything back to the client and their needs. I’ve seen plenty of businesses go to the wayside because they launch what they think is best, rather than what their customer wants. Always ask “what does this mean for my clients?” and you can’t go far wrong.”
